Thinking about eco-poetry and how it can be a terrible thing

As a child I:
Watched ants
Caught snakes
Caught crickets
Caught butterflies – rubbed the scales off their wings once
Tied a scarf around my head on windy days
Made snow caves

Frost this morning

I food

October 5th, 2007

10. Oh! Oh! Oh! I am food, I food, I food! I food-eater, I food-eater, I food-eater! I am the combining agent, I am the combining agent, I am the combining agent. I am the First-born of the existence! Prior to gods, the centre of the immortal. Whoso giveth me, he surely doth thus save. I, the food, eat him who eats food. I the whole being destroy. Light, like the sun!

The Taittiriya Upanishad 3-10, Translated by Alladi Mahadeva Sastry

Eater of Food

October 4th, 2007

Taittiriya-Upanishad (3.10.6-7)

Oh, wonderful! Oh, wonderful!
Oh, wonderful!
I am Food! I am Food!
I am Food!
I am the Food-Eater! I am the Food-Eater!
I am the Food-Eater!
I am the Maker of Poetry! I am the Maker of Poetry!
I am the Maker of Poetry!
I am the first-born of the cosmic Order,
prior to the Gods [residing]
in the hub of immortality!
He who gives Me [as food],
he indeed has preserved Me!
I, who am Food, eat the Eater of Food!
I have overcome the whole world!
[My] effulgence is like the sun.

— Translation by Georg Feuerstein, Ph.D.

Cool stuff including;
catalog pdf (see esp page 13)
5 Iterations for X-tra Magazine Online

Questions that inform her work are: When does handwriting become drawing? What is revealed about the nature of thought when the words we use to communicate are converted into other aesthetic forms?
