There’s a good feeling of completion coming from this matched set of little books with onion-skin dyed covers. It was my friend Jaye’s idea to make a book like this with sewn-over straps binding using strips of leather. I ended up making two because I wanted examples of the variety of colors you can get with onion skins. The cover on the left reminds me of green roses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inner pages are interleaved Canson Mi-Tientes paper in different colors with Strathmore tan toned paper from a pad. The thread is waxed linen 4-ply. It took us awhile looking at the prototype book to decipher the stitch pattern. I think we got it about right. I wrote out the steps and the second one went much easier. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This morning, I woke up to a granular dusting of snow on the ground. The shallow bird bath is full of ice with a frosting of snow surrounded by the fuzzy seedheads of the asters. Yesterday I harvested the last of the broccoli and pulled up its stalks. It’s Thanksgiving week. Brussels sprouts, squash, and pies to be prepared. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
