It was my friend Jaye&#8217;s idea to make a book like this with sewn-over straps binding using strips of leather. I ended up making two because I wanted examples of the variety of colors you can get with onion skins. The thread is waxed linen 4-ply. It took us awhile looking at the prototype book to decipher the stitch pattern. I think we got it about right. The shallow bird bath is full of ice with a frosting of snow surrounded by the fuzzy seedheads of the asters. Yesterday I harvested the last of the broccoli and pulled up its stalks. It&#8217;s Thanksgiving week.
