I made this quilt very quickly and soon after we moved to Maine. I’m surprised that it is already wearing out at certain spots. This silver duppioni silk that seemed so attractive is not very sturdy. It’s worn to shreds, exposing the interior.

The interior: I took apart an old quilt made by my mother out of corduroy squares. The back was shredding in places, the batting was disintegrating, but the top was still useable. I decided to use it in the center of this quilt. It makes a very heavy blanket. I meant to come back and do more stitching through all three layers, but I haven’t done that yet. Maybe now? Maybe the shifting of the layers is causing extra wear. We used it as a cloth to cover the couch, so it was getting a lot of abrasion from our sitting and lying down.

Needs mending

I’m not really sure what to do. I need to replace this nine-patch, I think. The decorative machine stitching across the top is due to rushing to finish it. Rushing. No need to rush now, there is another covering on the couch at the moment and I can take my time with this.

Worn nine-patch

The light snow that fell emphasizes the stillness of today.
