The class only lasted a few hours, but it did help me get through some blocks I’ve been experiencing with drawing. These are some of the pages I did that I found the most fun. The exercises I enjoyed the most were: continuous line drawing, continuous line drawing plus revisiting and adding detail, and free doodling. There were also exercises for drawing one’s body from memory, drawing how one’s body felt (visual expression), and associative writing with drawing.

Page of free doodling with pen & ink, while listening to the instructor talk about Bourgeois

More “free doodling”

I like the dip pen. I’m using it daily, getting familiar with it. I have a Kakimori nib, which excels at holding a lot of ink. It’s capable of making both thin lines and fat splashy blobs of ink. I have a lot of questions about drawing, but they are probably the kind of questions that must be answered by doing it. This class was helpful along the way. Thanks, Nancy!

And some progress on my quilt repair. My first nine-patch was much too heavy. After I finished the patch, I imagined that it would look grafted on, not well integrated. So I tried again with different fabrics. This time I didn’t hem the squares first. I just cut them to roughly the same size and stitched them together. So they are uneven, with an unfinished outer edge. A different approach, a different look. A red moon from Glennis in the center, very eye-catching. Next step is to stitch the patch in place. I have enough allowance at the edges to catch the firmer base fabric around the sides. Step by step.

Meanwhile, some snow.
