Maybe it was a few years ago that I saw one on Instagram. The medium entered my consciousness. Something about the smudginess of the ink and the fuzziness of the line seems very attractive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ve had some kind of block &#8211; not sure what that was all about. Some kind of fear? I&#8217;ve made other kinds of monoprints (can never remember the difference between monoprint and monotype), but trace monotypes seemed too daunting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, I just did it. It was easy. I made a whole pile of them on sheets of torn newsprint. I ended up with a print that really looked like a face with a dark stare<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gemtactics.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/img_7444-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"848\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gemtactics.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/img_7444-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13027\" style=\"width:500px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gemtactics.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/img_7444-1.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.gemtactics.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/img_7444-1-265x300.jpg 265w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Six persimmons. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For this one, I copied an 800-year-old ink painting that&#8217;s on view for a short period of time in San Francisco (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gemtactics.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/img_7446-1.jpg\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.gemtactics.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/img_7446-1.jpg\">screenshot<\/a>). I pressed my finger into three of these orbs to transfer ink; the masterpiece I took as inspiration has four darker ones. For this one, I used a pencil to draw on the back of the newsprint, so I could see what I was doing. Also taped the corners down for more stability and fewer smudges.
