I made a voice recording of wood frogs! I went for a long walk west and at two locations heard wood frogs croaking and quacking. This was very exciting as I’ve not heard them before in this area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I did some research on wood frogs and found that they freeze solid in the winter! They thaw in early spring just as the snow disappears and the ponds open up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I’m curious about why I only heard them in these two pools. There are a lot of vernal pools around here, including along our driveway, but not all contain woods frogs. Also – where are the spring peepers? I don’t hear them. We always heard them in Connecticut. Maybe it’s too early. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I’d love to get in to the edges of these ponds and try to photograph some frogs or some egg masses. It would require my knee-high boots and maybe some better weather than today (it’s snowing). <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
