I’ll be harvesting those soon and bringing them home to cure.

The big echinacea at left is delightful. To me and to the bees. Small butterflies and a few Japanese beetles have also found the blooms.

The winter squash is mostly leaves and foliage, but a few little squash are visible. I’m honestly not sure what is planted there. Delicata, Blue Hubbard, Red Kuri and something else.

The sunflower is a volunteer. Isn’t it fantastic! It’s not blooming yet. Last year, Sam restored a tall sunflower in a nearby plot that had blown over in a windstorm. I like to think of this one as a thank-you gift.

There are lots of calendula plants, as well as zinnia, cosmos, and black-eyed susan intermingled with the squash, not visible in this photo.

I planted a few more seeds recently. Maybe I’ll get some fall vegetables. Broccoli, collards, and kale. I planted some in the home garden, but they either failed to germinate or got eaten by – maybe a porcupine?

I’ve been visiting the garden more frequently to water during this very dry spell we’re having. It’s such a pleasure.

This is our plot at the community garden.
