They were growing in the hoophouse, where I usually plant a couple of seedlings. I have a surplus of fruit of course, so after eating some in a burrito, I decided to roast and freeze the rest of them. (Two pints of tomatillo salsa were already on the shelf from earlier harvests.) A half hour of de-husking in the strong morning sun was called for. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tomatillos were a surprise to me. I don&#8217;t remember how I realized that they grew well in Maine. Maybe it was by browsing a Fedco catalog. I always thought of them as a Mexican or southwest crop. But they grow well &#8211; the plants I pulled up were very vigorous and still had flowers on them. I just love the colors. The purple variety is called &#8220;Purple Blush&#8221; and I forget the name of the green variety.
