Combining missions: I wanted to visit my sister in southern Maine and also to give Sam an experiential gift (the best kind for him). So we went to visit and stayed overnight at The Lincoln. It\u2019s a quirky and elegant hotel in Biddeford, just down the road from my sister\u2019s place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hotel\u2019s Christmas decorations were over the top. After a surfeit of fairy lights, I was charmed by this one, lit by the pale sun of a winter morning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The weather has been – let\u2019s say, interesting. One morning this week, the weather station read 0.7. That\u2019s zero degrees. Inside, a warm 72 due to Sam\u2019s obsession with the wood stove. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On our way to southern Maine on Monday, the temperature had risen and rain fell. It rained most of the day, washing away snow. We haven\u2019t been out this morning yet, but I expect some icy spots as the temps are wintry again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m working on knitting socks. These are shorties with a heel tab in a wool and linen blend. The directions for the toe baffled me at first as they were worked on only one needle. I\u2019ve never done that before. Knitting is full of surprises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
