It was wonderful. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two long heartfelt phone calls in the morning, and some shoveling. Then a trip to the island for a little coffee break and some cross-country skiing. It was very cold, so we only skied for about 20 minutes. I was trying to find a way to simultaneously hold my poles and warm up my fingers.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was snowing most of the day. We drove home through a wintry landscape that looked like a scene out of Doctor Zhivago. Very beautiful. The roads had been plowed, but were not clear and the plowed-up snowbanks were white, not mucky or slushy.
