{"id":6885,"date":"2018-11-25T10:24:07","date_gmt":"2018-11-25T17:24:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gemtactics.net\/wordpress\/?p=6885"},"modified":"2020-04-16T10:42:35","modified_gmt":"2020-04-16T17:42:35","slug":"visualizing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gemtactics.net\/wordpress\/2018\/11\/visualizing\/","title":{"rendered":"visualizing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Short-cut quilt in progress.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m building a top and bottom out of nine-patch squares and strips of fabric.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The fabric with pronounced gray-green stripes is khadi cloth from India, a gift from Suzanne.<\/li>\n<li>The small patches with circular motifs of moon, sun and stars are purchased from Jude Hill&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/threadcrumbs.bigcartel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">threadcrumbs<\/a> shop. Most of them are pinned temporarily, might move &#8212; to a border?<\/li>\n<li>The batiks and duppioni silk patches are from <a href=\"http:\/\/fiddleheadartisansupply.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fiddlehead Artisan&#8217;s Supply<\/a> in Belfast, Maine.<\/li>\n<li>The rest is from my remnant stash, gathered variously from Portsmouth&#8217;s fabric store and other places.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Laid out one side. Composition so far:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nine patches. These define the eventual width of the strips.<\/li>\n<li>Each nine patch heads a longer strip.<\/li>\n<li>Two strips per row, with the starting nine patch alternating between head and foot.<\/li>\n<li>No khadi cloth strips next to each other.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6884\" src=\"https:\/\/gemtactics.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/img_5264.jpg\" width=\"3844\" height=\"2519\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gemtactics.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/img_5264.jpg 3844w, https:\/\/www.gemtactics.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/img_5264-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.gemtactics.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/img_5264-768x503.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.gemtactics.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/img_5264-1024x671.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 3844px) 100vw, 3844px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m looking for the sweet spot between chaos and order, between slapdash efficiency and patience. So the pattern looks thought-through, rhythmic, and pleasing, but not finicky enough to drive me crazy.<\/p>\n<p>Are there any more rules to find? Maybe the nine-patches should descend&#8230;how complicated should I make this?<\/p>\n<p>I need to lay out the other side to see if there are any more revelations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Short-cut quilt in progress.
