Bird seed buffet

In the morning, before I left the bedroom, Sam called up from downstairs. This is unusual, but there was a sight to see.

Our bird feeder is squirrel-proof, but not bear-proof (been knocked over and raided twice). And apparently not raccoon-proof.

This one continued eating shamelessly while we looked at it out the front window. She* leaped down and ran into the woods when we came out the front door. We’re not sure how she scaled the metal stovepipe baffle that keeps the squirrels out.

*Somebody said a raccoon seen during the day was probably a female who didn’t want to leave her cubs (kits?) alone at night. And probably starved for calories.
