A Democratic Socialist New Year
We watched Zohran Mamdani’s inauguration as New York City’s mayor today. It was so moving. I never lived in New York City but I’ve spent enough time there to almost feel like a New Yorker. I’ve worked there a few times. I can navigate the city on foot, by bicycle, by subway/train, and (almost) by bus. I know exactly where the inauguration was held, a rather dull place in lower Manhattan. My heart was full watching this. I love the diversity of the city. And I wish the new administration so much success. Such a sense of optimism! I could even believe this mayoralty will turn the tide of right-wing extremism.

Catherine~ Oh, I do so hope you are right. But, I must say the news late tonight of bombs in Venezuela, just leaves me confused. May the good rise to the top, like the fat in a warm pot of chicken noodle soup. (((hugs)))
I’ve been baffled all weekend. There’s a local man here who’s running for Senate against Susan Collins. His name is Graham Platner. Sam collected signatures for him this weekend. Lots of stories of enthusiastic signers, very uplifting.
