January
I feel very aware that it’s January. I like the month of January. It follows the hectic holiday season and sometimes just feels blank, like a hole in the calendar. It’s the dead of winter around here. It’s the month of my birthday, my niece’s birthday, and my nephew’s birthday. Capricorns and Aquarians.
Snow fell two nights in a row. Nights that were very still, windless. The snow stuck to everything. There was snow on the ground, on the houses, on the trees, on the fences, on the cars. Snow doesn’t discriminate, it just falls.


I am working on colorwork in knitting. It’s coming much easier. The piece below is part of the Dirigo Cowl designed by MJ Mucklestone. (Dirigo means “I lead” in Latin and it’s the state motto of Maine.) There are three mistakes – can you spot them?
