cloudscape + sunflower

The clouds were very dramatic yesterday. You couldn’t help looking up at the sky. Today, the sky has quieted down.

The sunflower in the community garden is also very dramatic. It started blooming at the top. The blooms are so tall they’re hard to look at. You have to crane your neck, or get so far away you can’t see them well. There are also some buds at eye-level that I’m looking forward to. It’s a good sunflower year.

Harvest: I froze three bags of peaches and canned three quarts of tomato sauce. Jerry’s bringing over some apples today from his tree. I’ll use them to make applesauce. I pulled most of the onions out of the ground and they’re curing on the straw for a few days. I’m picking skinny green beans by the handful and a few yellow squash and zucchini. The garden isn’t overproducing – there’s been so little rain, in spite of the clouds. But it’s producing enough to keep me busy and well-fed.
