Community Garden workday

Saturday was the last workday at the community garden for 2026. Not many people showed up, but those that did had a grand time. We tackled weeding the back edge of the garden. It’s really overgrown with weeds. This is a photo of how it looked when we stopped working. The path needs wood chips and only parts of the fenceline are weeded. Still, it was worthwhile.

The other task at hand is the replacement of the water tank and reinforcement of the platform it sits on. The platform is bowing, and needs reconstruction. Sam and a neighbor were really immersed in this project. Here’s a shot of the beginning, before any progress was made. Sam stayed on the platform, and David yelled his suggestions from below. It took hours, but they finally got the tank out of the cage and lowered to the ground. (The cage is still up there.) I took video of the final lowering but I haven’t figured out how to upload it. and uploaded it to YouTube. Scroll down to see it. Warning: it is pretty boring for the most part. And this is the third video I took! There were a lot of false starts and cogitation involved. I deleted the first two because nothing interesting happened.

The workday wasn’t all work – there were snacks and coffee and tea and conversation. And it was a beautiful day to be outdoors. Very convivial.

I can’t get enough of the these sunflowers! They are looking a little autumnal at this point.

I have three bouquets on the windowsill in the kitchen. It’s fabulous having so many flowers to enjoy.
