Autumn
It is really getting to look and feel like fall. I’m gradually harvesting and foraging. It is a time of tremendous abundance. The pantry is bursting. Sam has really focused on canning tomato sauce this year. I think he has 33 quarts!

A friend gave me these dahlia tubers and this is the second year for them. I really enjoy them. It is not difficult to store the tubers over the winter. They’re in containers, so I just dump them out, separate the tubers and put them in paper bags on a high shelf in the pantry. I might even get a few more varieties!
There’s more to harvest in the garden – always something, it seems. Kale, leeks, chard, potatoes, beets, a few carrots, scarlet runner beans… And I need to clear out all of the beloved sunflowers which are bent over and brown now. Taking it slow, a few hours at a time.
